S/S Jarl
On 17 March 1950, the Jarl sank near Ivarholmen off Risvær.
This steamer was en route from Florø to Bodø with a cargo of fish. After she ran aground,
the crew had to abandon ship in haste, and soon after the cargo broke loose and the vessel capsized.
The Jarl was built at Stavanger Støberi & Dok and was delivered in 1889. The steamer was in service
over the years as a transport vessel carrying fruit between the West Indies and the USA. Until the
outbreak of WW2, the vessel operated in the North Sea, transporting coal and fish.
Today, the Jarl rests at depths of between 8 and 18 metres.
