S/S Blaafjeld
The Blaafjeld steamship wreck is 70 metres long and weighs more
than 1,000 tons.
On 4 May 1940 the vessel was attacked by a group of German Heinkel 115 bombers while she was waiting in the Urdshalsvågen cove for a convoy destined for Britain. Although the ship took no hits, the crew themselves sank the vessel to avoid enemy capture; this is why the wreck rests completely intact on the bottom at a depth of 36 metres.
This wreck is like a real, picture-book wreck. The deck is at 30-32 metres.
The highest point is the chimney at 18 metres. The masts still have their
rigging around them – as if the ship went down yesterday.
